Position Overview

BSR seeks an Associate to join its Partnership Development team to support the development of concepts and proposals and to contribute to its donor business intelligence process. BSR implements a wide variety of programs with support from foundations and bilateral/multilateral donors to further our mission of creating a just and sustainable world. Our grant funded projects are implemented globally and seek to harness the organizational, operational, technological, and financial acumen of the private sector, working with partners from civil society, the public sector, and others in the pursuit of more environmentally and socially sustainable development.  

We seek to create projects that contribute to achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through business action.  

The Associate will report into the Managing Director, Partnership Development based out of the New York office.

Key Responsibilities

Proposal Management and Preparation:

  • Contribute to the drafting of concept notes and proposals.
  • Manage the grant proposal preparation process, assemble the proposal team, and gather the necessary inputs from various departments (finance, operations and compliance, human resources, subject matter experts etc.) to support the development of compelling proposals that align with the priorities of BSR and donors.
  • Develop bespoke engagement strategies for proposals and concept notes to ensure they are targeted at the right funders.

Business Intelligence:

  • Track business intelligence related to foundations, public sector donors, and other current and potential funders. This involves identifying and monitoring emerging donor trends and grant opportunities relevant to BSR’s Areas of Expertise.
  • Develop regular business intelligence reports for the organization which summarize the findings from this review.  

Grant Management and Operations:

  • Support project teams to produce timely, accurate and compelling donor reports for existing grants.
  • Check-in with grant project managers and directors on a quarterly basis to track progress against grant objectives, support teams to troubleshoot issues, and, in partnership with team leadership, develop plans for renewed funding.
  • Manage and track agendas and action items for recurring meetings.
  • Coordinate with operations and compliance teams within BSR to obtain necessary approvals and make enhancements to grants management processes.

Program Design:

  • Work alongside team leadership to contribute to ideation exercises with BSR’s area of expertise teams. This will involve conducting background research on emerging issues to support the development of strategic solutions to solve sustainable development challenges.

Knowledge Management:  

  • Oversee the grants knowledge management system on SharePoint Online, and the development and maintenance of grant tools (budget template, concept note template).
  • Maintain the partnership development team’s workplan using Monday.com and customer relationship management system on Salesforce.com.

Project Work:

  • About 20% of the Associate’s time will be spent implementing projects along one of BSR’s area of expertise based on organizational need, and the individual’s interests and capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Prior professional experience working with public and private donors (international organizations, national governments, and private and corporate foundations) is desirable.
  • Experience in developing and writing high quality grant proposals, including developing theories of change and logframes, budgets, and work plans for complex, multi-year and global projects is preferred.  
  • Good understanding of corporate sustainability and the private sector’s role in achieving the SDGs and/ or one of BSR’s area of expertise.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills for coordinating with diverse teams, including across diverse geographies.  
  • Fluent in written and conversational English.
  • Excellent writing skills.  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with Salesforce and Microsoft SharePoint Online a plus.
  • Capacity to work and thrive in a growing, fast-paced entrepreneurial organization and collaborative environment.

Compensation

At BSR we have implemented a transparent total compensation framework with an emphasis on internal equity. In order to maintain our equity, our salary ranges for this position are listed below.

US: $75,817

France: 52,539 €

UK: £42,138

Denmark: 459,939 kr.
