Transportation Alternatives (TA), New York City's advocate for walking, biking, and public transit, is seeking a Development Associate to be a member of our development team. This position reports to the Director of Development and will support all aspects of the organization’s events, fundraising and marketing work. This role is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual interested in the field of non-profit fundraising. The Development Associate will gain administrative and operational experience across all of TA’s revenue lines.

Responsibilities

Administrative

  • Provide customer service for TA members and constituents by managing the main TA phone line and the organization's general email inbox
  • Provide data entry and donor data maintenance support across all development functions
  • Maintain expedient and accurate gift processing and acknowledgement
  • Assist the Director of Development with tracking monthly fundraising progress and reconciliation of income with the finance team
  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Director of Development, including calendar management and expense reporting

Events & Partnerships

  • Assist the Director of Development and Events and Partnerships Manager with tracking and documenting corporate partnerships to ensure deliverables are fulfilled and payments are received in a timely manner (MOUs, invoicing, assets)
  • Provide logistical support to the Events and Partnerships Manager for events including Bike Month, TA’s annual benefit, conference, member party, and bike tours among others
  • Manage TA’s annual Silent Auction by securing items, creating a marketing plan, executing the auction and fulfilling items
  • Build and maintain registration pages for fundraising events
  • Collaborate with Events and Partnerships Manager and the Communications team to develop, manage, and execute a deadline-driven marketing communications calendar, including writing and composing marketing emails; and social media

Membership & Major Gifts

  • Support the implementation of annual fundraising campaigns, including membership recruitment and retention campaigns and the end of year appeal
  • Play a key role in print and digital membership recruitment and retention campaigns
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the membership program and maintain a high quality of customer care and service for all members
  • Oversee employer matching gifts program, staying up-to-date on program changes

General Fundraising

  • Manage TA gift shop, including the online interface and physical inventory. Organize and execute promotions like Black Friday, member sales, and other tactics to increase sales.
  • Recruit and manage annual marathon fundraising teams
  • Represent TA at advocacy and partner events across all five boroughs
  • Serve as the liaison between the communications team and the development team - ensuring that both teams are aware of the actions of the two departments

Qualified candidates will bring with them:

  • One to two years of internship or work experience in a people-facing role (e.g. customer service, event planning, volunteer or public programming)
  • A team player who is eager to learn about nonprofit fundraising and possesses strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Self-directed, able to work independently on multiple projects, and able to set and adhere to deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment
  • Superior organizational skills and an aptitude for process and systems
  • High degree of emotional intelligence, professionalism, and level of confidentiality
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google suites
  • Interest in TA’s mission to improve the livability of NYC through transportation infrastructure

Exceptional candidates will also bring with them:

  • Comfort in utilizing spreadsheets for tracking and reporting revenue
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with EveryAction or comparable CRMs
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting

This position is included in the bargaining unit of TA employees represented by the Technical, Office and Professional Union, T.O.P. Local 2110 UAW.
