About Planet Reimagined

Planet Reimagined is on a mission to deliver fair solutions for people and the planet. We use an innovative action-research method to incubate and scale creative solutions to our most pressing climate problems. With an unwavering focus on impact, we bring researchers and advocates from around the world to collaborate on initiatives that touch all aspects of the climate crisis: energy, waste, water, farming, finance, production, transportation, environmental justice and so much more. Our action-research method trains and engages the climate leaders of the future while using media and entertainment platforms to reinforce strategic advocacy to mobilize climate action.

Project Description:

Planet Reimagined is hiring a diverse team to implement the Common Grounds initiative. Common Grounds seeks to develop co-located renewable energy resources on public lands actively being used for fossil fuel production. Twenty-three million acres of federal land is currently leased for oil and gas production and exploration, a large percentage of which is located in areas with high potential for renewable energy generation. Through co-location - the mixed use of one unit of land for multiple productive purposes - the Common Grounds team is working to encourage land-sharing between existing fossil fuel lease lands and clean energy projects in order to increase the number of renewable energy projects on public lands, revitalize energy communities through reinvestment, and reduce energy related emissions.

As a Community Engagement Advisor on the Common Grounds team, you will be responsible for building relationships with local communities, stakeholders, and landowners in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico to support the development of utility-scale solar projects. You will lead outreach efforts, educate the public, and ensure that community voices are heard throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires strong communications skills, relationship-building expertise, and a deep understanding of regional dynamics.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute community engagement plans tailored to the unique demographics, cultural considerations, and priorities of communities in the Intermountain West.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with local stakeholders, including elected officials, county and municipal staff, landowners, tribal leaders, agricultural communities, and environmental groups to foster trust, transparency, and support for Common Grounds solar project development.
  • Engage with local chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, and trade groups to promote the benefits of renewable energy projects and their economic impact.
  • Plan and execute community open houses, town hall meetings, public hearings, and one-on-one stakeholder meetings to educate the public and gather feedback on projects.
  • Coordinate with local schools, workforce development programs, and universities to explore partnerships for solar industry education and job training programs.
  • Serve as the primary contact for community questions, concerns, and requests related to project development, ensuring timely and transparent communication.
  • Capture audio and video content during the engagement processes for use on social media.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in community engagement, public affairs, communications, or stakeholder relations, preferably within the renewable energy or infrastructure sectors.
    • Experience with renewable energy is strongly preferred.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with experience engaging diverse audiences, including rural and tribal communities.
  • Ability to translate technical project details into clear, accessible messaging for the public.
  • Experience in facilitating public meetings and managing community feedback loops.
  • Skilled in digital content capture and storytelling.
  • Ability to travel (up to 25%) to community meetings and project sites across Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Resident with Authorization to Work

Compensation and Benefits:

The targeted salary range for this part-time contract position is $30/hour. Additional benefits include, flexible working hours, and a remote but highly collegial working environment.
