ABOUT BASTA
Since 2016, Basta has worked with thousands of first-generation college students of color to launch their careers and change the face of leadership in the workforce, resulting in the country's best job placement outcomes. Through personalized AI-powered career planning, best-in-class coaching, and networking with top 100 employers, New York-based job seekers in Basta’s Fellowship program find great jobs at nearly twice the rate of their peers. Our Powered By Basta program is scaling this impact through game-changing analytics and online support that supercharges colleges’ career success programs so students nationwide can accelerate their professional journey.
SCOPE AND PROBLEM
American undergrads are facing a job market beset by systemic underemployment. The problem is especially severe for the nearly 5 million first-generation college students: only 44% of first-gen students of color land a job that requires their degree, and only 20% earn a living wage within a year of graduation. These trailblazers have the smarts, skills, and experience to land a job that leverages their degree, pays well, and forges a path to a thriving career. Basta partners with colleges, nonprofits, and employers to build that bridge of opportunity.
THE PERSON
As a Basta Content Facilitator, you will join a team of contractor facilitators, leading engaging learning experiences for our direct service fellowship program and Powered by Basta, our capacity-building initiative. As a facilitator for Basta’s fellowship, you’ll have the opportunity to facilitate the Fellowship Program’s virtual and in-person content to first-generation college students of color as they launch their pathway to their first career. Additionally, as a facilitator for Powered by Basta programming, you will lead virtual sessions for college-level participants from a wide range of innovative partnerships that integrate career readiness into their programs. In doing this work, you’ll leverage your ability to:
● Flexibly adjust your pace and approach to maximize fellow interaction
● Maintain high energy and engagement while keeping the discussions focused
● Translate complex information into clear and concise language
On a typical week, you might:
● Facilitate Virtual Programming for groups of 10-100 (up to 9 hours a week)
● Facilitate In-Person workshops for groups of 60-90 (up to 10 hours, three weekends over 11 weeks)
● Collaborate with full-time staff to ensure exceptional content fidelity (consistently)
● Review, practice, and internalize existing session content to make it your own–incorporating your own voice and talking points where appropriate (consistently)
QUALIFICATIONS
You could be our next Basta Content Facilitator if:
● You believe deeply in the inherent value and potential first-generation grads bring to the workplace and are excited to support them to achieve their career goals through dynamic facilitation
● You have 5+ years of professional experience facilitating engaging virtual learning experiences
● You have at least one of the following: o 3+ years of experience in a corporate setting (e.g., in recruiting, learning & development, etc.) o 3+ years of volunteer or professional experience working with college-aged young adults
● You’re adept at working in a virtual environment using virtual communication/collaboration tools, including Google Docs, Zoom, and Slack
● You have a genuine love of people and build effective relationships naturally. You listen carefully, are empathetic, and seek to solve problems with people, not for them
● You take complete ownership over your work, but you’re not afraid to ask for help when you need it
● You are based in or near New York City.
● Your availability is within 12pm-8pm EST Monday through Friday, and 10am-5pm Saturday
