About the Job

The ACLU seeks to fill a full-time position for a Temporary Project Manager in the National Political Advocacy Department of the ACLU's National office.

This position is a 9-month term position eligible for remote work in the United States.

The National Political Advocacy Department builds power to achieve an accountable, representative democracy. We have ambitious goals across Reproductive Freedom, Democracy and Voting Rights, Systemic Equality, Immigration, Trans Justice, Criminal Justice and other core issues in order to protect and expand civil rights and civil liberties, and advance the freedom, equality, ability to prosper, and humanity of all People.

Our department conducts analysis, develops policy, crafts world class campaigns and situates the ACLU to have impact across legislative, administrative, and electoral levers. We are policy experts, lawyers, community organizers, lobbyists, campaign strategists, electoral specialists, program managers and more. We partner across the ACLU to drive national efforts, and support and amplify the priorities of our affiliates. We work to center principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in our approach.

What You'll Do

The temporary Project Manager will report to the Director of the State Campaigns Team.

Your Day to Day

• Serves as lead project coordinator for the Firewall Campaign and other special projects and assignments tasked by the Director of State Campaigns. The candidate will organize project workstreams, establish and manage timelines, identify risks, manage roles and progress to goals, drive accountability, gain the cooperation of others, assist in resolving potential conflicts, and manage internal communications
• Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation, providing a clear historical record of decisions, systems, procedures and communications involved in each project's completion
• Tracks execution and implementation of key tasks
• Designs and implements methods for tracking deliverables, schedules, and metrics for projects, providing clear tasks and accountability for project leaders and team members to ensure deliverables adhere to internal quality standards
• Executes specific tasks within projects, including drafting communications and meeting agendas, systems build-out and testing, managing procurement processes, and creating project evaluation and presentation materials
• Takes notes and shares internal updates across multiple forums with project leadership, departmental leadership. Provides the Director and other department leadership regular updates on the progress of projects
• Maintains a relationship management database to facilitate smooth navigation of partnerships, coalitions, and relationships with other advocacy, community, grassroots, grass tops, and movement organizations
• Serves as the primary liaison to staff across NPAD supporting the Firewall campaign facilitating internal communications and adherence to workstream objectives and deliverables, reporting requirements, and timelines
• Develops agendas, analyses, and materials for team meetings; manages follow-up to key decisions directly with staff
• Supports the Director of State Campaigns by developing critical communications such as talking points, memos, emails, documents and presentations in preparation for important internal and external meetings
• Manages systems for communication and collaboration so National and Affiliate staff have the most up-to-date information, feel connected to the larger team and mission, and interconnectedness of projects are realized and leveraged
• Builds relationships and fosters a sense of team in a high-performing work atmosphere

• Exceptional organizational, planning and project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects and coordinate collaborative work processes involving multiple stakeholders
• Flexibility to manage multiple priorities from a variety of sources; organizing and prioritizing effectively to impact areas of greatest need
• Ability to work proactively in an ambiguous, dynamic, fast-paced environment
• High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel), and project management software or tools (e.g. Asana)
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to exercise a high level of discretion, confidentiality, and professional integrity
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Creative, critical, strategic thinker who is self-motivated, possessing the ability to operate as well independently as part of a team
• Strong analytical and reasoning skills, comfortability with Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience with issue advocacy at the federal, state, or local level a plus‍

Compensation

The ACLU is committed to equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with our compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for each role based on geographic work location. The annual salary for this position is $104,593 (Level H), reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY.  Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting. Please note that the salary will be prorated based on the duration of the assignment.
