Beyond Type 1 was co-founded by Nick Jonas in 2015. Our mission is to help people living with diabetes survive and thrive. We are the home of the largest diabetes community - 5 million strong and growing. From resources and truth talk about living with diabetes (eg: ‘Sex, Pumps & CGMs’, ‘Your Type 1 Guide to Music Festivals’) to helping you find affordable insulin (getinsulin.org) to connecting with other people living with diabetes, we are dedicated to building community for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Role Overview

Beyond Type 1 is seeking an experienced, people-first leader to guide our team through an exciting period of growth and beyond. The Director of People & Culture’s mission is to make sure all staff members are happy and create a productive environment. You will support a people-centered workplace culture that is welcoming, energizing, and empowering to employees of all identities, communities, and experiences.

Through effective relationship-building and excellent communication skills, the Director of People & Culture will serve as a trusted resource to employees, managers and leaders across the organization as they plan and execute on their objectives. You are able to strike the balance between getting down in the weeds to apply your HR knowledge and expertise with your ability to pull-up and help to set plans for the future. This role reports into the VP of Operations, Finance, and Planning.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Own the employee journey from initial touchpoint to exit interview and all stages in-between, including onboarding, employee status changes, off boarding, promotions, and administration of compensation changes, benefits, and leaves
  • Manage all employee benefits including open enrollments, 401k compliance, regulatory filings and employee handbook updates
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, national, and international laws with regard to employee hiring and retention procedures
  • Manage both required training (anti-sexual harassment) as well as professional development training (how to conduct performance reviews)
  • Take a hands-on approach to design and implement the key People & Culture infrastructure that will enable Beyond Type 1 to scale smoothly
  • Lead initiatives for performance management and continuous feedback, creating strategies for growth and managing low performers
  • Create objective measures and standardized reporting to help leadership understand employee trends, successfully monitor the “pulse” of the employees to ensure a high level of engagement
  • Implement strategies to consistently improve employee retention and workplace culture, driving initiatives that foster a positive and resilient team aligning with our core values
  • Work with CEO on company-wide meetings, off sites and Board communication specific to Compensation and Company Culture, manage company OKRs and communication of progress to team
  • Be a welcoming, active listener who inspires and fosters trust and confidence from employees
  • Build credible relationships to collaborate across the organization to create and continuously fine-tune the employee experience through feedback loops, metrics, trends, key insights and detailed analyses
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team and key thought leader on People & Talent matters
  • The ideal person has knowledge of Type 1 diabetes either through their own lived experience or through supporting a close family member

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years in HR operations
  • Strong operational background with experience working in growth companies with remote teams in multiple states and international locations
  • Proven ability to plan, prioritize and drive to success multiple projects simultaneously with demonstrated subject matter expertise in HR and talent acquisition tech stacks, compensation and benefits, people analytics, immigration and employment law and people policies and processes
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal communication skills, tact and discretion in handling information, attention to detail, and strong work ethic. Ability to effectively collaborate and work with all levels
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively
  • Exhibit confidence in self and others; ability to inspire and motivate others to perform well
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and changing priorities and demands
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - experience with internal communications preferred
  • The ideal person has knowledge of Type 1 diabetes either through their own lived experience or through supporting a close family member


Salary

The salary for this position is $100-125K.
