Now Brewing – advisor, global human rights! #tobeapartner
From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only
celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.
As the Advisor, Global Human Rights, you will lead the execution and continuous refinement of Starbucks' enterprise human rights strategy. This role will drive cross-functional coordination with business units and functions to ensure alignment with our internal human rights commitments and compliance with evolving global standards and regulations. You will play a central role in aligning internal governance, investments, communications, processes, and policy improvement plans to achieve these goals.
As a strategic, collaborative, and proactive advisor, you are passionate about helping a large, global organization anticipate and address human rights risks and challenges. As a member of the Global Sustainability Team, you will work closely with other leaders to ensure that human rights initiatives are integrated across sustainability efforts and effectively represented to senior leadership. This role reports directly to the Director, ESG and Human Rights.
As an Advisor, Global Human Rights, you will…
· Oversee Human Rights Governance: Strategically develop and coordinate internal enterprise governance to implement consistent human rights standards across Starbucks' global value chain.
· Support Cross-Functional Teams: Partner with key cross-functional teams (e.g., Global Coffee and Tea, Global Supply Chain, Licensees, Channel Development, Legal, Partner Resources Organization, Customs) to ensure human rights practices, policies, and expectations are consistently upheld across the organization.
· Lead Communications and Reporting: Develop materials for business leaders, the Board of Directors, and external disclosures to communicate progress, track key metrics, and inform investment decisions.
· Assess and Mitigate Risks: Identify human rights risks across operations and supply chains and collaborate with relevant teams to develop and refine risk mitigation strategies.
· Engage with Stakeholders: Serve as a liaison with stakeholders, including NGOs, community groups, and industry bodies, to address human rights concerns and maintain open communication.
We’d love to hear from people with:
· 5-10 years leading social or environmental impact programs and projects and/or leading strategy programs, projects, and cross-functional teams
· 4 year degree preferred
· Excellent cross-functional management skills and the ability to influence leaders, partners, and external resources without authority in a large, matrixed organization.
· Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to translate technical information to leadership.
· Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and ability to see around corners to mitigate risks and keep large projects on track.
· Hands on experience implementing and managing environmental, sustainability or ESG software solutions is a plus.
· A passion for people and the planet, human rights, environmental justice and equity; desire to help partners and the organization thrive.
