TSIP is a science-led nonprofit driving sustainable change in agriculture by strategically aggregating soil data across industries with the goal of improving soil monitoring and modeling for all producers. Leveraging state-of-the-art agroecological modeling, a growing suite of digital tools, and simple low-cost field hardware, we are building a National Soil Database to provide accessible, actionable insights to everyone.

Position Description

The Soil Inventory Project (TSIP) seeks a strategic and collaborative Head of Strategic Partnerships to expand our data acquisition partnerships and drive growth of our National Soil Database. This role focuses on establishing and managing key data sharing relationships in agribusiness, non-profit, and CPG industries, to support TSIP's mission of revolutionizing soil health monitoring through our innovative technology and modeling platforms.

As the leader of our partnership strategy, you'll work at the intersection of agricultural technology and business development to forge valuable data sharing agreements across the agricultural sector. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll collaborate closely with the CSO, COO, and CTO to align partnership opportunities with TSIP's strategic roadmap and technical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Partnership Development and Data Acquisition

  • Lead strategic outreach to potential data partners, including agricultural technology companies, research institutions, and large-scale agricultural operations
  • Develop and negotiate data sharing agreements that create mutual value while protecting partner interests
  • Establish new data partnerships in addition to shepherding two major ongoing partnerships through contracting
  • Manage relationships with existing data partners to ensure continued engagement
  • Identify new growth and data streams through collaborations
  • Work closely with legal on data sharing contracts

Strategy and Business Development

  • Determine and refine the sales proposition for TSIP's data resources
  • Make go/no-go decisions on partnership opportunities based on strategic roadmap and capacity
  • Work closely with the CTO to evaluate technical integration possibilities
  • Represent TSIP at industry events and conferences
  • Develop and maintain relationships with agricultural industry leaders

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with the CSO and technical teams on integration of new data sources
  • Collaborate with the CEO on strategic initiatives related to data monetization
  • Support grant writing and reporting requirements related to data partnerships
  • Participate in weekly TSIP leadership meetings and monthly strategy sessions

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of job experience or master's degree + 2 years job experience in sustainability, agriculture technology, partnership development, business development, or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of agricultural technology and data systems
  • Track record of successful partnership negotiations and understanding of contracts
  • Excellence in stakeholder management
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (e.g., Soil science, Agriculture, Environmental Science & Studies)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in agricultural or environmental sectors, including understanding of soil science and agricultural systems
  • Background in ag tech or agricultural data systems, with familiarity with carbon markets and ecosystem services
  • Experience with data sharing initiatives and building trust-based partnerships in the agricultural sector
  • Strong negotiation skills with experience in agreement development and dealmaking
  • Sales or partnership background with business development vision and execution capabilities
  • Comfort working in a rapid-growth, goal-oriented environment

Compensation:

  • 1099 contractor
  • Base salary of $90,000
  • $25,000 bonus for successfully meeting data partnership deliverables

Location:

Flexible within the United States, with regular travel required (1-2 trips per month anticipated), and weekly meetings with EST and CST.
