Role Description
Canopy’s Manager, Major Gifts is primarily responsible for developing and implementing strategies for identifying mid-level donor and foundation growth and moving these donors up the escalator of giving. You will persuasively communicate Canopy’s innovative, collaborative, solutions-focused model of change and mission to potential and existing donors. Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, this position will provide stewardship and cultivation support for all levels of giving and will work with the Philanthropic team to secure and meet our revenue goal.
Strategy & Development
- Collaborate with the Director of Major Gifts to create and implement a major gift fundraising strategy to support Canopy’s overall revenue targets.
- Work with the Director of Major Gifts to develop innovative and creative initiatives and opportunities for new and existing major gift revenue streams.
- Work with the Philanthropic Partnerships Team to align efforts and set goals
Major Donors
- Manage robust donor portfolio including:
- Steward and develop relationships with existing major donors
- Research opportunities to engage with new donors, including the creation of prospect profiles
- Make direct, face-to-face solicitations
- Undertake CRM analysis to identify potential major donors
- Proactively cultivate a new pipeline of donors
- Create and implement moves management plans
- Implement the major donor strategy, including individual stewardship plans.
- Support senior members of the team in effective donor engagement
- Plan and facilitate major donor engagement events/touchpoints
- Work with the Canopy Team to engage their networks.
- Manage existing portfolio of donors and prospects
- Acknowledge major donors through Canopy’s model of recognition
Collaborating with Other Canopals
- Work with the Philanthropic Partnerships Team to develop healthy and diverse revenue streams for Canopy’s solutions-focused forest conservation campaigns.
- Work in collaboration with Canopy’s Impact, Impact Communications and Culture & Engagement Teams to ensure the Philanthropic Partnerships Team leverages opportunities and is focussed on areas of revenue needs for campaigns.
- Collaborate with Canopy’s Culture & Engagement Team to create engaging and impactful donor assets and events that reflect Canopy’s brand and culture.
- Provide portfolio development support, and strategic counsel and help with donor communications when other team members external to the Philanthropic Partnerships Team are involved in asking.
Qualifications
- You have at least 3 years of not-for-profit fundraising experience preferably in major gifts and/or personal solicitation of gifts.
- You make donors feel valued because you are sensitive to their needs
- Experience in completing prospect research and creating a pipeline of donor prospects through to cultivation, ask and stewardship
- Outgoing nature and a self-starter
- Driven by results
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including in digital environments
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a donor-centric orientation and the ability to interact with individuals from a variety of social backgrounds
- Strong listening skills and ability to elicit donor-giving motivations and interests.
- Demonstrated proficiency with databases and CRM platforms eg Salesforce, Mailchimp, iWave
- Good attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently as well as in a team
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggling several projects simultaneously
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including campaign/communications, fundraising and external creative teams.
- Ability to think strategically as well as act tactically
- Adaptable and quick to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
- Proven ability to handle time-sensitive projects and prioritize multiple objectives simultaneously, to work independently and to drive projects to completion with minimum guidance and acute attention to detail.
- A track record of achieving measurable results and goals.

Salary
