About The Role

As Program Director - Climate, you'll play a pivotal role in directing a team of lawyers, communicators, and campaigners to drive impactful climate litigation and law reform. You'll guide strategy to hold governments and corporations accountable for climate commitments, including just transition, sustainable finance, delivering on the goals of the Paris Agreement and securing a rapid phase out of fossil fuels.

Your leadership will build the Climate Team's capacity while fostering collaboration across Ecojustice’s Nature and Healthy Communities portfolios. You'll identify innovative opportunities to shape climate law, particularly through litigation.

A key part of your role will be advancing Ecojustice's Strategic Plan by embedding justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and Reconciliation (JEDI-R) into projects, fostering partnerships with Indigenous and equity-deserving communities. Additionally, you’ll cultivate relationships with clients, allied organizations, communities, and donors to further Ecojustice’s mission.

Responsibilities

As the Program Director - Climate you will:

  • Engage as an innovative thought leader in climate law and policy
  • Lead development and implementation of Climate Program strategy
  • Build Climate Program impact and capacity by collaborating with department leaders in
    • Strategic litigation files
    • Law reform campaigns and projects
    • Communications initiatives
  • Direct and mentor a team of talented and committed lawyers, strategic communicators and campaigners
  • Develop the long-term partnerships with key clients, allied organizations, communities, and donors that are critical to Ecojustice’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Embody Right Relations with Indigenous and equity-deserving communities, you will model and promote these values
  • Advancing Ecojustice’s Strategic Plan by embedding justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and Reconciliation (JEDI-R) within the Climate Program

Role Success - Experience AND Competencies

Necessary experience to be successful in this role includes:

  • At least 5 years of experience in litigation
  • Lawyer and member of provincial law society in good standing
  • Demonstrated strategic and innovative case development
  • Experience leading teams, coaching, and mentoring
  • Extensive knowledge of climate law and policy
  • Demonstrated experience and competency in relationship management including collaboration and emotional intelligence
  • Experience directing projects including strategic planning, goal setting, budgeting, key performance indicators, and success measures
  • Public communication delivering key messages to public, private, and media audiences

Other experience considered in the success of this role includes:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing programs and teams within the climate movement
  • Working in coalitions across organizations
  • Securing funding to support program objectives
  • Acting as an organizational spokesperson
  • Leading through organizational growth and change
  • Demonstrate work and knowledge embedding justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and Reconciliation in program and project planning

Salary

$118,097 - $144,329 annually

Location

Hybrid in office or fully remote (Canada).

Ecojustice has offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax. Remote Candidates are welcome to apply. This role will require occasional travel.
