Last Minute Ways to Get Involved in the Election

Well, our American Impact Jobbers, it’s almost over. Election day is in…checks notes…five days. While we won’t be sad to see this election cycle, and the endless texts asking for donations, end, we also don’t want to gloss over the seriousness of this election.

In fact, every election is serious, and it’s important to remember the impact of local races. If you’re wondering if there’s something you can do to get involved and support your candidates with only five days left, the answer is yes.

It’s not too late, baby.

Here are a few last minute ways you can get involved in the election:

  1. Volunteer as a poll worker - contact your county’s election office and ask if they need extra help!
  2. Sign up to canvas or phone bank - you know politicians won’t stop knocking on doors (literal or virtual) until the very last second.
  3. Help people get to the polls - see if there’s a local organization that coordinates rides to the polls for people without transportation, and offer to be a driver.
  4. Remind your friends and family members to vote - pass along info about polling places, voter ID requirements, and local races. You can even make a plan to vote together!
  5. Get involved with a local candidate - contact their office and ask how you can help in the last few days.
  6. Volunteer to ballot cure - ballots get rejected for mistakes, and some states allow voters to help correct. After the election, look up ballot curing opportunities near you.

For crying out loud, the last thing you wanna do is get to the end of this election cycle and be a Mark Brendanawicz. Five days is plenty of time to mobilize people to vote, so get out there folks.

See ya next week!
